SHOULD I PUT MY DOG ON A RAW DIET?

Diet, something we all worry about from time to time.  There are enough trends out there today in LA as well as other parts of the world, to make a person’s head spin whether they are thinking of a diet for themselves or their best friend.

Each one touts the health benefits that they offer up but do they do what they claim?  Are they right for you or your dog?

One such diet that appears to be reputed as being beneficial for dog and human alike is the raw diet.  Raw as in, in the natural state it comes.  For us humans that can mean a variety of things from sprouted buckwheat to fresh tomatoes off the vine.

For our dog, that may mean not only those fresh peas straight from your garden but also raw meats.

Since a dog’s diet consists mostly of meat from chicken, beef, lamb and the like it can, to us humans, seem a bit off, after all, how many of us throw our dog a raw chicken leg straight out of the package for a snack.

There are, however, quite a few health benefits for a dog that may surprise most of us if we can get past the RAW part.   Their teeth are usually cleaner, their skin and coat healthier and shinier, so on the outside, this appears to be a fantastic choice with regards to your dog’s health.

One tried and true benefit to them eating a raw diet is that they will have more energy since they are eating foods the way they are supposed to be consumed, giving them more of the nutrients and enzymes found in the food.  Cooking the meat depletes its enzyme content for everyone since heat kills enzymes.

Since the food is better processed and their body, like ours, will use more of the nutrients it receives in its natural state, they will also have smaller stools.  This benefit also helps the environment and community in LA and other areas of the world.

Another area in which a raw diet is superior is that since they are in the natural state containing vitamins, minerals, and enzymes in their natural form your dog is also less likely to have illnesses or get sick as often.  Their immune system will be healthy and strong, and they will likely sleep better too.

`There are some who consider a raw foods diet dangerous for everyone, human and animal. However, if we take a step back for a moment and acknowledge the way our dogs and our ancestors ate, we will likely see that raw foods were very heavily focused on and promoted their overall health and well-being, creating strength, endurance, energy, and a better physical system as a whole.

Whatever diet you choose, raw foods have a daily place in your dog’s eating habits.  You will see more energy, better health, a more beautiful appearance, happier temperament and overall good health that no other diet can ever compete with that is cooked and processed or out of a can or box.
