BENEFITS OF PROBIOTICS FOR DOGS
Our dog, our best friend and constant companion that loves being by our side in all that we do. They are sometimes wonderful and sometimes not so much when they rip apart our favorite shoes. One thing is for sure, genetically, they are like us when it comes to the makeup of their bodies.
They have lungs, a heart, mouth, eyes, and a digestive system like we do. Now that doesn’t mean that the digestive system is identical to ours because it isn’t. As a pet owner, there may be many questions as to how best take care of our dog for their wellbeing and long life.
While their digestive system may be different from ours, there are some things that we can do for their digestive health that is like the care we give to our bodies. One of those things is to administer the use of a probiotic.
Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that maintain the health and integrity of our digestive system to fight off infections and harmful bacteria that may lurk in sources outside of our bodies, such as food and things that are inhaled. In the case of our dog, they may also wish to eat things that aren’t something we would consider appealing, for this reason, they may be eating a more significant number of bad bacteria than we would.
These beneficial bacteria are readily present in all our bodies in the digestive system. They are there to perform the very function of keeping the proper balance between good and bad bacteria where it needs to be for each creature.
Occasionally due to dog illness or other issues, this balance in your dog’s system can get out of whack with harmful bacteria becoming out of control. This situation is something that no one, human or dog wants. That is where probiotics come in. When appropriately administered into your dogs’ diet, they provide an extra boost regularly of good bacteria.
Good bacteria can aid in not only keeping harmful bacteria and infections or dog illness in check, but it also can boost the immune system to fight off dog illness as well and help maintain the health of their immune system. They can also reduce allergies in dogs who are prone to this condition as well as urinary tract infections and bodily inflammation.
You wouldn’t think something so simple as yogurt or a probiotic supplement would be able to accomplish this, but it does. There are even more benefits to using a probiotic for dogs and humans that are unnoticed, but they certainly assist at maintaining the overall health of the animal in every cell of their body.
There are many ways to give your dog probiotics; yogurt is probably the simplest way. Since it is summer, making a frozen yogurt treat for them to eat on a hot summer day when it can be quite hard for them to keep cool is a great place to start.
